OUTREACH PROGRAMMES 2017

  • Observed Republic Day along with National Library
  • Observed the Birth Anniversary of Sarojini Naidu on 13th February 2017.
  • International Women’s Day: CRL celebrated the International Women’s Day on 8th March 2017. Prof. Esita Sur, Asstt. Pofessor, Scottish Church College has delivered the keynote address on that occasion.
  • SWACHHTA PAKHWADA: DURING 16TH -30TH APRIL 2017 Swachhta Pakhwada was observed in the Central Reference Library, Kolkata with all its seriousness. During this period innovative activities were organised to promote the objectives of the Mission.
    • On 17th April 2017, a meeting was organised at CRL where members of the staff assembled and took the Swachhta pledge.
    • On 18th and 19th, CRL staff members were actively involved in the cleaning of the premises of the office.
    • On 20th April, a ‘Sit and Draw Competition’ was conducted among the students of Garden High School, Kolkata in two categories of students from class III-V and class VI-VIII on Swacch Bharat Mission. Around 104 students participated in the competition. Prizes were awarded to winners.
    • On 21st April, an ‘Essay competition’ was conducted to students of M. P. Birla Foundation Higher Secondary School, Kolkata of Class VI – VIII. The topic of the essay competition was “How school children can contribute to Clean India Movement”. A total of 750 students were participated in the competition. Prizes were awarded to winners.
    • On 24th April, ‘Swachhta Campaign’ at University of Calcutta (Alipore Campus) was organised to make the awareness programme among the University students.
    • On 25th April, A ‘Swachhta Campaign’was organised at the Zoological Garden, Alipore, Kolkata. It was a golden opportunity for the team to meet Local and Outstation visitors of all ages and gender to make them aware on cleanliness programme instructed by the Govt. of India.
    • A ‘Swachhta Campaign’ was conducted at the Majherhat Railway Station on 26th April to promote awareness of the Swachh Bharat Mission to the commuters of the Majherhat railway station.
    • On 27th April, CRL staff wearing Swachhta uniform along with few volunteers cleaned a portion of the National Library premises where accumulated garbage was dumped.
    • The concluding session of the Swachhta Pakhwada on 28th April at the Technical Hall of CRL was held at 3.00 pm. Speeches were made on Swachhta mission in different Indian languages, staff members recited poems on the theme.
  • World Book Day: Central Reference Library observed the “World Book Day’ on 24th April 2017. Dr. Amitabh Chatterjee, Retired Professor & Head, Dept. of Library & Information Science, Jadavpur University has delivered the keynote address. Dr. Chatterjee dwelled on the subject “Readability and its Measurement”.
  • Rabindra Jayanti: The birth anniversary of our Nobel laureate and great Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore was observed on 9th May 2017 in a befitting manner.
  • International Day of Yoga: On 21st June 2017, the Central Reference Library (CRL) organised a programme on 3rd International Day of Yoga at the office premises. The CRL invited Shri Utpal Pyne, Yoga Guru from Naturoveda World Health on that occasion. He delivered a lecture on the need of yoga in everyday life. The yogaguru demonstrated some essential ‘Asanas’ (yoga postures) and the usefulness.
  • Librarains’ Day: Central Reference Library organised Librarians’ day on the auspicious 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan on 9th August 2017. Shri V. Srinivas, I.A.S., Chairman, Board of Revenue for Rajasthan, Ajmer was invited as the special guest on that occasion. A panel discussion on Reimagining Today's Librarianship was also included.

OUTREACH PROGRAMMES 2016

  • Librarian’s Day Celebration: Every year, the Librarian’s Day is organised on the auspicious birthday of Shri S.R. Ranganathan. This year CRL has organised it in collaboration with the National Library on 12th August 2016. Prof. Pijush Kanti Panigrahi, Professor of LIS, Calcutta University delivered the keynote address. Dr. Arun Kumar Chakraborty, DG, National Library, Dr. P. R. Goswami, Former Director, CSL, Prof. N. Lahkar, Gauhati University, Assam and Dr. K. K. Kochukoshy, Librarian, CRL spoke on the occasion. As part of the Librarian’s Day, one essay competition was organized on 6th August 2016 in collaboration with Kendriya Vidyalaya, Command Hospital.
  • Swachhta Pakhwada: As part of the Ministry of Culture endeavor to high light the need for clean India, the Central Reference Library, Kolkata put its all our effort to publicize the Swachhta Pakhwada.
    • On 20th September 2016 CRL staff along with few volunteers cleaned a portion of the National Library residential quarters.
    • 30 Children (boys and girls) from Alipore Takshal Vidyapith along with their teachers participated with the staff of CRL to clean the National Library Campus on 23rd September 2016. An essay competition was conducted on 26th September 2016 for the students of Shaw Public School, Behala, Kolkata in two categories from Class VIII-X and XI-XII on Swachh Bharat Mission.
    • On 28th September 2016 a one act Bengali play ‘Udayer Pathe’, produced by Ootsa Natyacharcha Kendra was enacted at the National Library old auditorium depicting the need for cleaning dirt not only physically but from heart also.
  • Vigilence Awareness Week: The Vigilance Awareness Week and Rashtriya Ekta Dewas were observed on 31st October 2016. All the staff members assembled and took the pledge.
  • Constitution Day: On 26th November 2016, CRL observed Constitution Day with reading of Preamble to the Constitution, Offering flowers to the copy of the Constitution and conducted an Elocution Competition among the staff members.
