AN APPEAL TO THE PUBLISHER

Publish Date: 12-07-2022

Central Reference Library

Ministry of Culture, Government of India

The Central Reference Library (CRL) is a sub-ordinate office under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India which is situated at Kolkata. The primary objective of this institution is to compile and publish the Indian National Bibliography (INB), an authoritative record of books published in 14 Indian languages including English. The INB prepared based on documents received by the National Library, Kolkata under the Section 3 of The Delivery of Books and Newspapers (Public Libraries) Act, 1954 and amended in 1956.

Unfortunately over the years, the commitment to discharge obligation of Publishers and Authors under Section 3 of The Delivery of Books and Newspapers (Public Libraries) Act is very discouraging and most of the Publisher’s are falling to deliver the book to the National Library, Kolkata.

It is not only breaking the law, but also losing a wonderful opportunity to create wide publicity of their books published through Indian National Bibliography, which is sold all over the world and also most of the Librarians use the Indian National Bibliography as a book selection tool.

We, therefore, appeal to all Publishers and Authors to deposit their books under the Delivery of Books and Newspapers (Public Libraries) Act to the National Library, Kolkata, this will enable us to publish the bibliographical data of the book published in India.

This will be your contribution to build up the cultural heritage of the Nation.
